Service-Learning Program Instructor (SLPI) at Haitian Education & Leadership Program

Description du poste:

The Service-Learning Program Instructor (SLPI)’s goal is to work toward HELP’s mission by facilitating community related student engagement projects while coordinating with HELP students and community members. The SLPI reports to the Academic Director and works with other Academic Department staff on all aspects of the C&L program for 160 HELP scholarship students. Primary responsibilities include improving and managing the service-learning program, participating in service-learning initiatives (this includes field work), overseeing HELP’s student government activities, monitoring the management and leadership in student housing, reporting to Direction and to donors, and coordinating guest speakers

Qualifications requises:

• Bachelor’s degree (in a related field)
• Three years of experience in program management, campus organizing, service education, civic engagement and/or working with Community-Based Organizations required. (Experience in Haiti is strongly preferred.)
• Excellent communication skills, flexibility, ability to work under high-pressure situations, ability to multi-task
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ease with autonomy and limited structure
• Ability to use word processing and spreadsheet programs (Excel, Word)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to read, write, and speak English and Creole. French is an asset.
• Collaborating with HELP students and staff and community partners to develop, oversee, and evaluate mutually beneficial and sustainable community service-learning projects. (approx. 20 hours/week)
• In collaboration with C&L staff, revising the C&L curriculum standards that pertain to the service-learning program, including: making editing suggestions, researching standards, and finding corresponding resources (approx. 5 hours/week)
• Assisting students in researching and structuring a student government (approx. 5 hours/week)
• Administrative duties, including: reports, resource management and meetings (approx. 10 hours/ week)
• Contributing to HELP media and promotional material. (approx. 1 hour/ week)
• Additional duties, including: facilitating guest speakers, English and French translations of staff reports, interviewing students for HELP marketing materials, and extra-curricular projects (approx. 3 hours/week)

Indicators of Performance:
These indicators are used to guide the performance evaluation for this position. Please note, that these indices are not exhaustive but they are meant to help the employee prioritize her/his work and for his/her supervisor to follow his/her performance:
1. Reports are complete and submitted on time.
2. Employee has served as a resource for students and staff interested in service-based initiatives
3. Employee frequently contributes to publicity and promotion of service-learning programs
4. Service-learning projects and initiatives are organized according to the annual calendar.
5. Student leadership development is assessed and reported upon at least twice a year.
6. Employee demonstrates a positive and collaborative attitude and represents the institution well inside and outside of HELP.
